Ningbo Women & Children’s Hospital (Ningbo Maternity & Infant Health Institute, Ningbo Red Cross Hospital) is a Class B Grade 3 hospital with Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics as its major specialties, combining medical practice, health care, teaching, scientific research, prevention, emergency care, rehabilitation and health education. It undertakes both the medical treatment of common diseases and the resuscitation of critical illnesses of ?children and pregnant women in Ningbo and neighboring region as well as the professional management for the maternity and infant health care in Ningbo.
　　The hospital was originally named Ningbo Prefectural Hospital,which was founded in 1975. It was renamed Ningbo Mingzhou Hospital in 1983. With the integration of the Pediatric Department of Ningbo No. 1 Hospital and the Gynecological and Obstetric Department of Ningbo No. 2 Hospital, It was renamed Ningbo Women & Children’s Hospital in 1985. Afterwards it added the names of Ningbo Red Cross Hospital in 1993 and Ningbo Maternity & Infant Health Care Institute in 1998, and developed into an affiliated hospital for the Medical School of Ningbo University and Ningbo Tianyi College of Health Technology. It is also the teaching hospital for several Medical Colleges in Zhejiang ,Jiangsu , Anhui province and Inner Mongolia,etc.

Ningbo,the hospital covers an area of about 22,909 sqm with the building space of 30,120 sqm, the number of staff is 930, 163of them have been awarded the high ranking professional titles. With 700 beds, the hospital is composed of 18 hospital wards, 28 clinical and technical departments and over 50 specialties. It also offers special-need clinical services . There are Pediatric Medicine, Gynecological, Obstetric, Internal Medicine and Surgery Clinics in the Emergency Department， which are running round the clock. In 2007 annual outpatient visits were 1,217,065 person-times, and inpatients were 31,777 person-times. 　　
　　The Perinatal Medicine is evaluated as a new round municipal major subject，Pediatrics is municipal major supported subject. The hospital has municipal functional centers for fetal diseases, neonatal inherited diseases , developmental disability screening, and MCH quality control. The hospital has reached the leading position in the field of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ningbo. The success rate of rescuing of critical Pediatric diseases has reached over 90%. A very low birth infant weighed 800 grams was successfully rescued. Many patients with severe combined traumas were also successfully rescued in the intensive care unit. The operation of extensive hysterectomy and radical pelvic lymphadenectomy for the uterine carcinoma has reached the advanced level of Ningbo. Now Over 10000 gynecological patients have been diagnosed and treated by endoscope. Enriched management of labor stage guarantees the safety of the parturients and gravidas. The hospital was approved only in Ningbo by MOH to carry out in vitro embryo transfer (IVF) and intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) techniques, and the pregnant rate is more stable now. The breast carcinoma patients who have accepted radical mastectomy operation with keeping breast have got better results. The operations for bile duct cyst, mega colon and dislocation of hip joint have all got good therapeutic result. There have been over 100 patients with congenital heart disease treated by open-heart operation with extracorporeal circulation. Several scientific research project have obtained many municipal and provincal rewards.
　　As a municipal Maternity & Infant Health Care Institute, the hospital takes on a great number of public health services. At present, it has made much progress in reducing the mortality of children, parturients and gravidas, and ?enhancing the quality of live birth population and lessening the developmental disability. The mortality rate of the parturients and gravidas, the perinatal infants and the children below the age of five has reduced significantly. Indices in maternity and infant health care have reached the domestic advanced level.
　　As one of Ningbo health infrastructure projects , a new inpatients' building is constructing now,which will be put into using in 2009, then the hospital will cover an area of about 43,355 sqm with the building space about 80,000 sqm, and hold 1000 beds .
